How to reach TELECOM ParisTech

There are two International Airports that serve Paris: Orly (ORY) and Charles de Gaulle Roissy (CDG). Both airports are equivalent with regard to getting to and from the conference site, so this should not be a deciding factor for which airline to choose. Paris has also many train connections to major European cities. Train schedules can be consulted at the SNCF ( French railway company ) web server or directly at the SNCF High Speed Trains web server.

TELECOM ParisTech is within 7 minutes walk from the "CORVISART" Metro station (on line 6). The Metro system and the RER (suburban commuter that reaches airports) are interconnected; you can travel from one system to the other with the same ticket. However, while any trip on the metro system costs one ticket, the price of the trip on the RER system depends on the distance covered. More about RER, Metro and Bus transportation in Paris can be found in RATP ( Parisian Metro company ).

Reaching TELECOM ParisTech from Charles de Gaulle Roissy airport:

  • Depending on your Terminal of arrival (1, 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2F, or 3), you may walk to the RER (suburban train) station or you may need to take a free bus shuttle.
  • Buy an RER ticket to Paris-section-urbaine (metro ticket included). It costs 8.40 euros.
  • Take the RER B. Get off at station "DENFERT-ROCHEREAU", then take metro line 6, towards "NATION", and get off at "CORVISART" station.
  • TELECOM ParisTech is within 7 minutes walk from there ( see map ).
  • The RER trip between the airport and TELECOM ParisTech takes about an hour.

Taxi from Charles de Gaulle to TELECOM ParisTech is about 50 euros on the meter (there may be some small additional charge for luggage).

Reaching TELECOM ParisTech from Orly airport:

Take ORLYBUS towards "DENFERT-ROCHEREAU'', get off at ``RENE COTY'' station. Then it's a 10 minutes walk to TELECOM ParisTech, or you may take Bus 62 on Alesia street ( see map ).

Taxi from Orly to TELECOM ParisTech is about 25-30 euros on the meter (there may be some small additional charge for luggage).

About the Musée du vin

The winding tunnels that now are home to the Wine Museum of Paris have an extensive history. Once ancient quarries excavated from Calcaire Grossier (coarse limestone), the site was then converted into cellars by the Minime brothers for the Passy Monastery. The quarries were dug out between the 13th and 18th century to serve as a source of stones for the construction of the French capital.

The tunnels were carved out from the Lutetian layer of the earth, which measures 37.80 meters above sea level. The word Lutetian is derived from the Latin name for Paris, Lutece . The underground passageways were dug using a technique to create pillars that would support the ceiling. During the 19th century, cement and brick walls were erected to bring the tunnels together.
A well at the museum’s entrance bears witness to the presence of natural water sources from long ago. Between the 17th and mid 18th century, various fresh water sources were discovered in the Passy neighborhood (from which the name rue des Eaux,“street of the waters”, is derived). The Passy waters were determined rich in iron although possibly diuretic. However, because of their mineral richness, the well off Parisian society used the waters to heal themselves. Those who frequented the Passy waters during the 18th century were for the most part intellectuals and artists. The waters were exploited up until the Second Empire.

The cellars were refurbished in 1950 and served at a certain point as the wine cellar for the Eiffel Tower’s restaurant. It then developed into the Wine Museum that you see today, belonging to France’s Conseil des Échansons since 1984. This association was founded in 1954 and seeks to protect and promote the best appellations of French terroir. In order to realize this mission, the Conseil des Échansons convenes in France, abroad, and even here in the sixteenth arrondissement at the Wine Museum of Paris. The association brings together amateurs and professionals alike from across the globe who wish to preserve the savoir-faire, the quality, and the universal renown of French wines.
